International creative branding agency Pearlfisher is celebrating 20 years of powerful design with the launch of ‘Have No Fear’, a limited edition perfect-bound book produced in collaboration with printing specialists Baddeley Brothers.
A testament to the firm’s fundamental belief in risk-taking creativity, the exclusive book presents 20 powerful statements using strikingly simple typography, a minimalistic black and white design and challenging printing techniques.
Mantras including ‘Thinking from the Heart’, ‘Playing with Fire’, and ‘Afraid of Nothing’, utilise blind embossing and blind debossing, white gloss foil on a jet black stock and clear gloss foil to give bold impact and emphasise Pearlfisher’s design manifesto.
Just 250 books in a choice of four cover colours, with individually handmade debossed slipcase envelopes, have been produced in Baddeley Brothers’ London studio. “The precision and artistry of the craftsman at Baddeley Brothers have helped make this book such a success,” explained Pearlfisher’s realisation director Shaun Jones.
“Each page contains the essence of one of our founding principles, providing a window into Pearlfisher’s culture as well as being a beautiful example of how a simple idea can be brought to life through design. Baddeley Brothers embraced this extremely challenging and problematic printing specification, and understood the importance of reproducing the sharpness of the typography and transforming our simple black and white designs into something dramatically tactile.”
Baddeley Brothers’ Director Charles Pertwee added: “Pearlfisher’s celebratory book features collaborative work from some of their best designers in New York and London.
“Each page has been carefully designed to impact the senses in a fresh way, sparingly highlighting words or letters with traditional printing techniques. It’s this use of traditional craftsmanship, juxtaposed with a highly contemporary design that Baddeley Brothers is best known for. From the gloss foil to the debossed envelope, I believe each book is already a design classic.”
