BADDELEY BROTHERS.
Specialist Printers & Envelope Makers
An account by The Gentle Author.
With designs by David Pearson.
This clothbound hardback book is for anyone with a serious interest in print, design, publishing, and typography. The BADDELEY BROTHERS book tells the dramatic story spanning four centuries of how the Baddeley family created one of today’s foremost specialist printers.
This Baddeley Brothers book is embellished with fine tipped-in samples illustrating the range of BADDELEY BROTHERS’ bravura print techniques. It includes an anatomy of envelope design, a glossary of printing terminology, drawings by Lucinda Rogers and a foldout map of the company’s city locations by Adam Dant.
Specialist printers & envelope makers, Baddeley Brothers have been established in the East End since the eighteen-twenties, yet before this they were clockmakers in the North of England since the sixteen-fifties, and it has been my great delight to write an account of the dramatic story spanning four centuries of how bundles created one of today’s foremost printing companies. In six chapters we can trace the emergence of the modern culture of design and print from the journeyman clockmakers, die sinkers, letter cutters, engravers and artisans of the eighteenth century right up until the present day through the story of one family.
