The Baddeley Brothers book has won a third industry award, this time at the prestigious 2016 British Book Design and Production Awards, organised by the British Printing Industries Federation (BPIF).
In a dazzling ceremony at the Jumeirah Carlton Tower Hotel in Knightsbridge, hosted by children’s presenter Baroness Floella Benjamin OBE, Baddeley Brothers and Spitalfields Life Books were crowned winner of the Best Trade Illustrated category, presented by Chris Keith-Wright, London New Title & Range Buyer from Waterstones.
Director Charles Pertwee commented: “This is the third award we’ve received for the book and we were delighted with the judges’ comments. It was also a privilege to hear Floella Benjamin speak about the importance of books, especially for children, and their role in shaping society’s beliefs, history and perspectives. We are honoured to know that our book is now part of that culture – bringing our history to life for new generations.”
The judges, who covered all areas of print, design, publishing, book binding and retail, commented: “A fabulous clothbound celebration of the joys of printing, with an array of luxurious features and tip-ins exhibiting typographical excellence, foiling, debossing and illustrated fold-out maps, amongst other eye-catching flourishes. Strong typesetting and a well-proportioned grid complement the varied imagery, which ranges from photography through to sparse line drawings. A treat for fans of type, printing, illustration, or simply a good family history.”
